The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review systems.
Video review systems will be launched at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Players are granted the ability to contest particular calls made by the chair umpire, echoing the practice already in place at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
The new system will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.
This development follows just a season following the All England Club introduced ELC, which effectively ended the longstanding role of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Players cannot to dispute the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the umpire to re-examine other decisions, such as:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a shot touched an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
- Possible interference end of a point.
Notably, there will be no cap on the number of reviews a player can ask for.
Case in Point
An illustrative case took place in Indian Wells last week, where a top player initiated the video challenge against Jack Draper.
Draper conceded it was a difficult situation for the official, but thought his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
The umpire viewed a video and determined Draper was guilty of interference, granting the point to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology aren't exclusive to major tournaments. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open this year.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its events.
Further Updates
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves instances where fans have sometimes been uncertain if a shot was in or out.
Finally, with precisely 100 days remaining until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have also announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
