World Series Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The thrilling extended contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run drew a total over 50 million watchers across the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this marks the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Details

The Saturday memorable contest averaged over 27 million audience members on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game drew 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language program in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total American average reached over 16 million. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09M viewers, an eight percent rise over last year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings after 2017.

MLB reported that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
